In the year 1170, a little boy named Dominic was born. He had two very happy parents named Felix and Jane. They had many other children, but they were in their old age and did not think that they would have another child. They had both prayed very hard to Saint Dominic of Silas for a baby, and that is why they named their baby Dominic.
While Dominic was growing up, he felt a strong calling to priesthood. So, he went to the university to learn the subjects he needed to learn in order to become a priest. After six years of studying for the priesthood, Bishop Martin de Bazan ordained Dominic.
After two years of Dominic being in the seminary, the bishop sent Dominic on a mission for the king. While he was on the mission he met a man who believed he was created by the devil. So, Dominic wanted to stay there and convert all the people who believed that they were created by the devil. Dominic had to finish his mission for the king and receive permission from the Pope in order to start another mission. He got permission from the Pope and he went to the town and converted a lot of people.
In the year 1221, Dominic was called to Heaven. After thirteen years, Dominic became Saint Dominic. His feast day was originally August 6th, but that date was the Transfiguration, so the Church moved it to August 8th.
